In connection with a homicide case from 2013, 29-year-old Armando Aryas Cuadras was arrested on Wednesday.
Cuadras was taken into custody after a new DNA analysis connected his blood to the scene of the crime where 94-year-old Leola Lucille Shreves was found brutally murdered on Jan. 23, 2013 inside her home on Park Avenue.
“Initial testing of the DNA evidence did not lead to a suspect. This is believed to be the first time this new process of DNA analysis has been used to identify a suspect and lead to an arrest” said the Yuba City Police.
Caudras was arrested around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and is currently booked into Sutter County Jail.
During the initial 2013 investigation, another suspect, Michael Alexander, was arrested on murder charges that were later dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Alexander was released in 2016, and sued Sutter County for $10 million stating a violation of his rights.
He settled for $50,000 in April of 2018.
